Mayor’s Bio
Mayor Johnson proudly served in the workforce for many years before retiring in 2017. His career included 21 years of service with Hammermill Paper Company/International Paper and 14 years with PennDOT. In addition, he has worked part-time with Dusckas Funeral Home for 25 years. Throughout his professional life, he valued hard work, dedication, and serving others — principles that have continued to guide him in public office.
He served two years on the Wesleyville Borough and has had the honor of serving as Mayor of Wesleyville for the past 25 years. His decision to seek the office of Mayor was driven by a strong desire to work collaboratively with Borough Council, the Borough Manager, and the Chief of Police to strengthen and improve the Police Department and enhance the overall quality of life in the community.
As Mayor, he has been committed to improving the Borough’s parks, revitalizing downtown Wesleyville, and supporting initiatives that make the community safer and more welcoming. He has advocated for the creation of a safe walkway along Water Street and for reopening the footbridge to provide safer, easier pedestrian access between Wesleyville and Lawrence Park. These improvements would also provide children with a safer route to and from school and school activities. He remains willing to work cooperatively with Lawrence Park in any way possible to benefit both communities. He has also spearheaded the creation of Wesleyville’s Hometown Hero Banner Program.
A lifelong resident of Wesleyville, he is a 1976 graduate of Iroquois High School. He married his wife, Cyndie Wegelin-Johnson, also a lifelong Wesleyville resident, in 1980. Together they have five daughters and eight grandchildren. For 25 years, they were honored to participate in the Foster Parent program, opening their home and hearts to children in need.
He attended Wesleyville Baptist Church as a child and is now a member of St. James R.C. Church.
What he values most about Wesleyville is that it is truly a wonderful place to raise a family. The residents care deeply about their neighbors, and it is a close-knit community where people look out for one another. He is especially proud of the dedicated Borough employees who provide outstanding services to residents every day. Serving the community has been one of the greatest privileges of his life.
