Garbage
The weekly garbage collection in the Borough is handled by the Borough’s own public works department.
They collect weekly with two routes, a Monday and a Tuesday, reaching each household in the Borough, approximately 1,500, and picking up approximately 24 tons of trash every week.
The quarterly rate per household is currently set at $62, and billing is handled by Erie Water Works included along with the household’s water bill.
Rules and Regulations
This collection is for municipal waste only, including everyday trash from households, businesses, and institutions, such as food scraps, packaging, and clothing.
The Borough will NOT ACCEPT:
Hazardous waste- batteries, mercury-containing items, ammunition, medical waste, or radioactive material.
E waste - anything electronic the Borough cannot accept because we cannot dispose of it anywhere. The County hosts some Household Hazardous Waste drop off sites annually through the county, learn more here *****.
Hazardous Items - paint, chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, flammable liquids.
Construction Materials - This includes, but is not limited to: roofing material, shingles, tar paper; windows, siding, flooring materials, tiles, carpeting; doors, lumber, heating/cooling equipment, plumbing materials, drywall.
How to help the crew:
- Having the cans as near to the street as possible.
- Having a tipper toter. A garbage bin that has a metal bar on it that allows it to be picked up by the lift on the back of the truck.
- Orient the can so that the wheels are facing the road. It's a small gesture but it saves a few seconds.
-
All garbage must be bagged, loose trash is more likely to scatter in the wind and cause the Public Works drew grief.
Maggot infested trash is unpleasant, try to control it as best as you can for the sake of the Public Works Crew.

Transition to Tippable Bins Effective January 2026
To better protect the health and safety of our Public Works employees, the Borough of Wesleyville will be transitioning to the use of tippable toter-style garbage bins beginning in January 2026. This change is being made based on recommendations from our workers' compensation insurance provider and concerns from our crew.
Why the Change?
Currently, traditional garbage cans require our employees to manually lift, twist, and throw heavy containers into the garbage truck—posing a significant risk of injury. To reduce this risk, we are requiring that any garbage can used for curbside pickup must have a metal lift bar compatible with the truck’s automated lifting mechanism.
Your Options:
- Use a Tippable Toters (Preferred Option):
- Residents may use any tippable-style garbage bin with a lift bar. These are available at most major retailers, including Walmart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot, and come in various sizes such as 48, 64, and 96 gallons.
- Use Trash Bags Only:
- Residents may also place up to four (4) bags per week directly at the curb without using a bin. Bags must be light enough for safe manual handling by our staff.
Already Using a Tippable Bin?
Great—no action is required on your part.
Need Help Getting a Bin?
The Borough has secured a manufacturer and will be purchasing a limited number of bins based on resident demand.
Two sizes are available:
- 35-gallon - Spec Sheet
- 95-gallon - Spec Sheet
The cost is estimated at $60–$70 per bin, depending on the final quantity ordered. Public Works will deliver the bins directly to your address.
